Vintage Styles of Hollywood’s Elite
Many of us admire, and even try to emulate, that grace both the red carpet and the runway. Hollywood stars wear gorgeous pieces by some of the world’s most famous fashion designers including Zac Posen, Oscar de La Renta, Balenciaga, Marchesa and Roberto Cavalli. However, we’ve recently seen a resurgence in celebrities wearing (and creating) vintage styles. Whether it be a vintage Chanel cocktail dress, Gucci clutch or beautiful Tiffany chandelier earrings, celebrities are learning to make statements with classic pieces.
Here are a few celebrities we feel complete the vintage look.
Los Angeles based stylist, editor and designer Rachel Zoe may just be considered the uncrowned queen of vintage fashion. With a strong passion for all things vintage for over two decades, Zoe has continually proven to be an integral part in shaping the fashion of Hollywood’s elite. In 2011, drawing on vintage-inspired fabrics, patterns and the spirit of the ‘60s and ‘70s, Zoe launched her own namesake collection (Rachel Zoe Collection). Pictured is Zoe at the 2012 Met Ball in her own classic creation.
Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen
Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen, who made their start playing the youngest Tanner on Full House in ‘90s, now have taken on the role of fashion icons. The sisters were first made famous in the fashion world for pioneering her signature “homeless” look, similar to boho-chic. This look included with an aesthetic mix of vintage pieces and accessories. In 2007, they launched Elizabeth & James, a contemporary collection inspired by many of their unique vintage finds in their personal wardrobes.
Here the twins are shown at this year’s Met Ball. Ashley is wearing a vintage Christian Dior Haute Couture gown. Mary Kate is wearing a vintage Chanel Haute Couture gown and a vintage Balmain jacket.
From the infamous meat dress to a dress covered in plush toys, Lady Gaga’s outfits have been talked about as much as her music. Since her rise to fame in 2008, Gaga has not been scared to explore every aspect of fashion, including an intense interest in vintage. As shown in the image to the left, Gaga was photographed arriving at the Taipei Sonshang Airport in Taiwan wearing a vintage Versace lime green long sleeve gown with mesh insert and side cut out details. She definitely didn’t go unnoticed!
Nicole Richie’s personal vintage style has become popular among fans and fashion critics and led to her recognition in the fashion world. She even launched her own vintage inspired fashion collection, House of Harlow 1960 in 2008, quickly following up with maternity line for Pea in a Pod. Pictured is Richie donning an original 1930s bias cut gown.
Even young Hollywood is exploring vintage fashion and Miley Cyrus is a prime example. The 20-year-old Cyrus is never afraid to make a statement with her wardrobe. The star recently wore a matching Versace vintage houndstooth skirt and jacket to host an episode of Saturday Night Live.
